Our school is committed to embedding foundational learning programs and
the Australian Curriculum through Queensland Education’s Curriculum to
Classroom (C2C) and The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting
Authority (ACARA). The Principal is a teaching Principal who is
dedicated to modelling, coaching and giving relevant feedback to staff,
students and teachers, which drives continual learning and reflection; and also
leads to improved academic achievement for students.
We strongly encourage and value the role parents, guardians and
volunteers have in our school, as community involvement and participation is
pivotal to student success. Connecting parents and caregivers with
student learning is another priority at Alexandra Bay State School.
Within our small school we have the great support of hard working
teacher aides who are committed colleagues who also share in Alexandra Bay
State School’s goal and improvement agenda. Our school’s priorities are to
improve the learning and achievement outcomes of all the students in our care.
Our auxiliary staff includes an experienced and knowledgeable Administration
Officer who works the first three days of every week, an immaculate and
impeccable cleaner and an efficient, flexible and hardworking groundsperson.
Our one hectare school was built within the rainforest in 1988,
halfway between the Daintree River ferry crossing and Cape Tribulation in the
community of Diwan / Cow Bay. The indigenous custodians are the Kuku Yalanji
(Gugu-ya-lan-ji), with place and country that spans from Mossman to Bloomfield
and the surrounding western ranges. There is abundant flora and fauna,
including exotic palms, cycads, salt water crocodiles and cassowaries. Diwan /
Cow Bay is 45 minutes north of Mossman and Mossman is the
closest small town providing shopping, services and the local state high
school. The ferry river crossing is operational from 6 am until 12 pm, 364 days
a year (limited hours on Christmas Day). This strident community is
self-reliant, as north of the Daintree River there are no council provided
amenities including electricity, waste pick-up and water.
